How my journey began

I did not want to be a piano teacher.

The first piano lessons I gave were when I was a high school student. My one student did not practice, and I felt like a failure.

I went to college and trained as an elementary music specialist with a K-12 certification. I was so excited to teach in public school!

I loved the elementary music classroom. Teaching the Kodaly method, and incorporating lots of movement and singing, was right up my alley.

Then, our first son was born. He was in the hospital for a month, with complications that resulted in a lifelong seizure disorder, with special needs.

I quit my teaching job, we moved, and I became a full-time mom and very-part-time piano teacher.

Boy, did I learn from life experience! Parenting influenced my teaching in a very great and profound way. The lessons I learned from my son and two daughters have stayed with me.

Fast forward 36 years later, and I could not be happier. My piano studio is thriving; I enjoy giving each of my students what they need to be successful in piano lessons. I am blessed to be close to my grandsons and pass on the love of music. And, I can teach piano online to my granddaughters!

I hope that my experience can benefit and encourage you as you look for music and resources. Every child is extraordinary; let’s celebrate how they are and bring out music in everyone!
