How Come We Try to Squeeze so Much Out of So Little?

Ever try to SQUEEZE that last bit out of the toothpaste tube?

almost empty toothpaste tube

I believe it is a scientific fact that the closer we get to the end of the toothpaste tube - the more that humans try to squeeze that last little bit out.

I've been thinking - do tend to do that with my piano studio? Like how, do you ask?

For me, three basic ways:

TIME

plain clock with Roman numerals

I try to SQUEEZE every bit of time out of my lesson schedule. I hardly give myself time to breathe!

It hasn't always been this way. When I used to teach "rotating lessons" or "20/20/20 lessons" or "buddy lessons" or "partner lessons" - whatever you want to call them - I scheduled in small breaks. It really worked well and that's why I'll be bringing PARTNER LESSONS back to my schedule in the fall as an option.

(If you are doing partner lessons or some such variant now - stop RIGHT THIS MINUTE and comment below. I want to know!)

I'll be spending some of my free time (LOL) this summer writing lesson plans and activities for these lessons. I've already outlined it - it's in my head - and I can't wait to get them all written. If you have any interest at ALL in partner lessons, please let me know!

SPACE

I've condensed space in my studio as much as possible, in order to accomodate before-mentioned lesson types. I also have a great setup for my online lessons. It's a tight squeeze - but it will work.

MONEY

Ahhhhhh, this is were we are all at now, right? Trying to squeeze as much as possible out of that ever-lovin' dollar!

I'm heading toward retirement years (If there is such a thing for piano teachers) and I have got to pinch pennies.

That's why I AUDITED myself (that means I did some number crunching) and found out I am not doing so badly!

Gone are the days when we don't have expenses to run our studio. (that's a whole other message.). I'll be concise here and say - after I quit being afraid of the numbers - I am comfortable with the percentage I spend on expenses.

As one of the creators that offers things for you to buy....

I am keenly aware of this last point. That's why - I'll be offering BIG SALES for you this fall. Stay tuned.
