Sometimes we ask beginner piano students to play a steady beat before they really understand what a steady beat feels like.
So I like to leave the piano.
We start with a drum, a simple visual cue and a song they already know. Then, step by step, we work our way back to the piano.
By the end, even a young beginner can go from tapping a beat on a drum to playing their part in a simple piano ensemble.
